Pietro Perugino
1450-1523

Italian

Student of Andrea del Verrocchio, Piero della Francesca
Teacher of Raphael Sanzio

Pietro Perugino was trained in the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio while Leonardo Da Vinci was also studying there. Perugino may also have studied with Piero della Francesca before establishing his career painting frescos and altarpieces for churches in Florence, Rome, and Perugia. Perugino’s finely drawn and executed paintings were also in demand in France, Spain, and other countries, requiring him to run two studios, one in Florence and one in Perugia, with a considerable number of assistants to keep up with the demand for his many commissions. Perugino’s prolific output also included designs for banners, embroidery, and stained glass.
