On this day, February 13, 1891, artist and sometime illustrator Grant Wood was born in Anamosa, Iowa. Wood studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and made study trips to Europe. He was famous for his distinctive work as a painter, muralist, and art teacher; only rarely were his images also used for illustrations.
