On this day, February 9, 1928, illustrator Frank Frazetta was born in Brooklyn, New York. As a young child Frazetta studied at the Brooklyn Academy of the Fine Arts and by the age of 15 he was working in the studio of comic artist Bernard Bailey. By 1947 Frazetta was working for Standard Comics. A fantasy and science fiction artist, Frazetta drew for comic books, created movie posters, and illustrated book covers (for Tarzan and the Conan series) and stories.
