On this day, May 23, 1915, William Timmins was born in Chicago, Illinois. The son of illustrator Harry Timmins, William study art at the Art Students League and the Grand Central Art School in New York. Timmins worked in pulp and science fiction illustration and then specialized in western scenes.

On this day, May 22, 1985, Wolfgang Reitherman, the German-American Disney animator, director and producer died in Burbank, California. Reitherman began working for Disney in 1934 and eventually became Disney's chief animation director. In 1969 he won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.

On this day, May 19, 1950, author and illustrator Arthur Dorros was born in Washington, D.C. After studying at the University of Wisconsin and traveling, Dorros began authoring and illustrating in the 1980s and has produced more than 20 children’s books since then.

On this day, May 18, 1918, illustrator Joe Krush was born in Camden, New Jersey. During the Nüremburg Trials Krush was assigned to assist the court by preparing illustrations. Later with his wife Beth Krush, he illustrated many children’s books. Five in The Borrowers series and All-of-a-Kind Family Downtown by Sydney Taylor.

May 17

On this day, May 17, 1972, artist and illustrator Roman Genn was born in Moscow, Russia. Genn moved to the U.S. after being repeatedly arrested for publically exhibiting anti-governement caricatures. He is a contributing editor for the National Review and still creates illustrations for the magazine.

On this day, May 15, 2006, pin-up illustrator Joyce Ballantyne died in Ocala, Florida. Best known as the designer of the Coopertone girl. After studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art, Ballantyne worked in illustration. On this day, May 14, 1924, cartoonist Brad Anderson was born in Jamestown, New York. After service in the U. S. Navy, Anderson received a BFA from Syracuse University. As a student Anderson produced cartoons for student magazine and also for popular commercial magazines. He created his most famous comic strip Marmaduke in 1955.

Norman Rockwell Museum is Open 7 days a week year-round

May – October and holidays:

open daily: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Thursdays: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. (July/August 2015)
Rockwell’s Studio open May through October.

November – April: open daily:

Weekdays: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Weekends and holidays: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Holiday Closings:

The Museum is Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
