Brandywine River Museum
Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania
American illustration is a major component of the museum’s collection. The collection includes illustrations by many of the 19th and 20th century American illustrators Howard Pyle, Rockwell Kent, Edward Gorey, Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), N. C. Wyeth.
Center for Historic American Visual Culture, of the American Antiquarian Society
Worcester, Massachusetts
Established in 2005, the Center for Historic American Visual Culture (CHAViC) at the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) provides opportunities for educators to learn about American visual culture and resources, promotes the awareness of AAS collections, and stimulates research and intellectual inquiry into American visual materials.
Delaware Art Museum
Wilmington, Delaware
The museum’s creation dates from a few months after the passing of the illustrator and illustration teacher Howard Pyle and focuses on his work and that of his students. There is also the country’s largest collection of illustration work by the American realist artist John Sloan.

New York State Museum

Natural and cultural history collections consists of approximately 20,000 illustrations that have been created primarily for publication. These feature subjects in the fields of Anthropology, Biology, Geology, History, and Paleontology. There are at least 5,000 archeological and ethnological illustrations, valuable as documents of time and history. Of the biological illustrations, 1,962 are by Charles H. Peck, the museum mycologist from 1868-1913.
