On this day, August 12, 2012, comic book artist Joe Kubert died in Morristown, New Jersey. He said that he earned his first pay as a cartoonist at 11 ½. After attending Manhattan’s High School of Music and Art, Kubert worked at the Chesler studio first as a penciller and eventually in color. Kubert created Tor and Son of Sinbad and worked on Tarzan. Kubert also founded the Kubert School in Dover, New Jersey.
