On this day, August 16, 1901, pulp illustrator Earle K. Bergey was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Bergey began working in the art department of Philadelphia’s Public Ledger. Soon he was contributing cover to pulp magazines and also created illustrations for mainstream magazines like The Saturday Evening Post. Bergey is best remembered for his cover illustration for Anita Loos’ Gentleman Prefer Blonds.
