On this day, December 23, 1919, Robert T. McCall was born in Columbus, Ohio. Always fascinated with planes, McCall studied art in Columbus and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. After he created illustrations and began producing science fiction images for the pulps. In 1957 he went to Cape Canaveral to paint at the request of the Air Force and he worked for NASA at their request. McCall also created the promotional art for the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
