On this day, July 21, 1927, illustrator Paul Blaisdell was born in Newport, Rhode Island. He studied at the New England School of Art and Design. Blaisdell was best known for his imaginative monsters in low-budget science fiction movies of the 1950s, such as It Conquered the World. In 1955 Blaisdell created the cover illustration for The Ant Men by Eric North for Winston Science Fiction. He also worked as an illustrator for the SF digest Spaceways.
