On this day, July 4, 1866,  illustrator Arthur Ignatius Keller was born in New York City. He studied art at the National Academy of Design and in Munich. When he returned to New York, his work began appearing in many of the popular magazines. Keller also illustrated many of the popular authors of his day, including Owen Wister’s book The Virginian.
