On this day, June 19, 1940, illustrator and actor Robert J. Wildhack died in Montrose, California. Wildhack studied in Indianapolis and then in New York with Robert Henri. By the teens, Wildhack was known as one of the top cover illustration and poster artists producing work for Scribner’s, Century, Collier’s and Life magazines. After moving to California, Wildhack worked in radio, on stage, and in movies.
