On this day, June 4, 1989, cartoonist Dik Browne died in Sarasota, Florida. After attending Cooper Union in New York, Browne began producing a comic strip while he was in the army. In the 50s Browne and Mort Walker co-created Hi and Lois and in the 70s he created Hägar the Horrible.
