On this day, March 17, 1923, military illustrator Charles M. Lefferts died in Port Washington, New York. A self-taught artist, Lefferts was in the military and when he was not he spent most of his time studying uniforms of the American Revolution. After his death his images were published in a book titled, Uniforms of the Armies of the War of the American Revolution, 1775-1783.
