On this day, March 6, 1917, Will Eisner was born in Brooklyn, New York. After studying at the Art Students League in New York, Eisner began working for the New York American newspaper and creating illustrations for pulp magazines. His comic book career began in the 1930s. In the late 1970s, Eisner turned his attention to longer storytelling forms, such as A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories, an early graphic novel.
