On this day, September 9, 1878, Dan Sayre Groesbeck was born in California outside of San Francisco. He trained at the Throop Polytechnic Institute in Pasadena and at the California School of Design. Groesbeck worked as an illustrator for the Los Angeles Morning Herald and a variety of popular magazines. In the 20s Groesbeck worked for Paramount Studios producing story-boards and creating posters.
